Crypto Escape Room

🐱🎶🍕 You’re relaxing at home after a long day at school. Your tabby cat Cipher prowls your room, a great nerdcore song loops in your head, and in the kitchen the aroma cooking French pastries tells you that dinner will be amazing, with BBQ chicken pizza, great cheeses and prosciutto with fresh baguette, all to be followed by cake. But what if something gets in the way of this amazing meal? Decode the messages (Caesar + Vigenère) to unlock each “door” before time runs out.

🔐 Caesar Cipher (single shift)

What is it? Every letter in the message shifts by the same amount (e.g., shift 3 means A→D, B→E, C→F).

Example: With shift 3, the plaintext BRING HOT SOUP FOR LUNCH becomes the ciphertext EULQJ KRW VRXS IRU OXQFK.

How to solve: Use the Brute Force tool to try all 26 possible shifts and look for readable English words!

🔑 Vigenère Cipher (keyword-based)

What is it? Uses a keyword where each letter determines a different Caesar shift. The keyword repeats across the message.

Example keyword: LYRICS gives shifts L(11), Y(24), R(17), I(8), C(2), S(18), then repeats.

How to decrypt: For each ciphertext letter, subtract the corresponding keyword letter's shift value (wrapping around the alphabet).

Try it yourself: The keyword TABBY will decrypt cat-themed messages. Use the Vigenère Helper tool: enter a keyword → click Preview Decrypt to see the plaintext!
